Adrenaline and fearing for your life a little is good for people IMO. But it takes a lot of will power to know when to shut it off and when to push the envelope. Easy to make a stupid decision even for smart people a lot of times. I absolutely miss everything about racing. I wore a heart rate monitor for a race and I was absolutely floored. My heart rate before the flag start was at 180, averaged in the low 190s and peaked above 200 for a good part of the race. I thought the HRM was wrong, and did it a few more times and then found out that was around normal for the type of racing I was doing. There was nothing more satisfying than just finishing a race let alone winning the rare time it happened.
