I've climbed mountains, but I'm not a mountaineer. The fact that Meru is not an 8000m probably takes it out of consideration.

Shut up, fig.

. The high altitude summit climbs don't really do it for me in general though.

Everest is a high mountain but not nearly the tallest mountain. I guess the draw is the elevation. I dont see the thrill

Are there any working live Webcams of everest now?

Here's one
This is apparently at about 18,000 feet, and refreshes every 5 minutes.

I won't swear to it, but I think at least some of the expedition groups will have one at base camp.

EDIT: looking at that picture, I don't think it's actually live, sorry about that.

You've climbed neither. How would you know?

I don't either but to each their own. Put me on a rope in Yosemite or Zion on a big wall and I am a happy man

The published opinion of every elite climber who has ever climbed both and spoken on the matter is that K2 is significantly more difficult.

I am assuming this guy was a physician, it is a common theme, their income allows them to undertake activities that are beyond their capabilities, see it all the time in the aviation world. Why would somebody downvote the truth? The death rate is also way higher, although I think one of the others may be even a little higher than K2.

I would be embarrassed to go over there and have the sherpas wait on me like it is colonial India or something, putting out ropes and all sorts of other shite to basically drag people up the mountain.

I'd like to trek there and see K2 and other mountains in the Karakoram range. That's dangerous enough for me. I have no aspirations beyond that.

Dr. Strydom is a she, and she's university professor from Australia or New Zealand. But your general premise is accurate.
