I hate remote too. I don’t post much about my job on here but I will say that it’s IT also and I really don’t like what it’s evolved too over the last 2.5 years. It’s not what I signed up for now. But apparently, the client thinks I’m great even they my boss from another country only talks to me when he ‘scolds’ me like a child. I have no upward mobility. I often look at my laptop like it’s the devil but then I remind myself that because of that laptop, I have the place to live by myself, the car to drive, and insurance to go get my teeth scraped today at 8:00 a.m.

So, I try to count my blessings and you should do the same. They let us come back back everyday and that mores than some people can say right now.

Hope you find another job soon but it’s tough out there.

Naw, my direct reports all care about their responsibilities.

I guess I hired the right people and manage them effectively.

Sometimes people further down the organizational chart have let us down but we’re pretty good at hiring well and keeping the bar high on performance.

We pay well, truly value safety, and encourage folks to work smarter not harder.

We are best-in-class in our little world, our customers tell us and, better still, are doggedly loyal to us.

Thanks for making me pause to self-evaluate, it’s been nice.

Think I’ll go into work now.

We have a guy here who is close to 70. Dude disappears almost daily for like 2 hours. Leaves early at least once a week. Is constantly at the doctor or some funeral or somesuch. We had another guy file an age discrimination lawsuit several years ago and got a settlement. Upper management won't touch this guy because of it and he knows it. This is a corporate office. Guy will probably stay here and collect a check until he is 80 and get forced distributions from his 401k in a couple of years when he hits 72.
