Folks sure do get triggered when weather is reported with context.

Their daily forecast actually says “near record high temperatures”.

Are they near record high temperatures?

You people bitch more than any group of people I've interacted with.

potentially breaking a daily record seems noteworthy

I mean, it is, but not all potential for daily records being broken get anywhere near the same coverage.

Is five degrees lower than the record "near" record in your opinion? It isn't in my mind. In New Orleans today the forecast calls for a high of 95. Record is 100. Historical average is 94.5.

Seems like a better comment would be "almost exactly average historical temperatures today" instead of an unneeded, untrue alarmist comment.

This has been the bigger issue this summer, the drought conditions in large portions of the country.

Don't take offense when I say this, but your perception is skewed because the current drought is impacting you, personally, a little more than this time last year.

On a larger scale, the country is in markedly better shape than this time last year where drought is considered:

I'm willing to bet that the formula for calculating "feels like" has changed from 20-30 years ago, too.
