The singular flag may not advance lives in a tangible way, but I can gurantee you that it will make more South Carolinians feel more American and more South Carolinian then ever before. That's what we need. Honestly, what do the flag supporters lose from it being taken down besides the false sense that their way of life is being assaulted and ended ?

It honestly says more about those that defend the flag than those that are against it. We constantly tell black folks jot to live in the past-- well the same goes for confederacy sympathizers.

White privilege is a real thing, and can basically be quantified in every meaningful life stat we have, no matter how much you deny it. Our social structure placed a premium on it and it's just ignorant to ignore how systems, structures, laws, etc were first made to benefit whites and then everyone else. Especially since whites make up a majority of the country, our racist history, and the demographics of our politics. Nothing wrong with it, but denial is just childish.

But on this board, white privilege gets individualized into random and chance incidents that serve as self-fulfilling prophecies to this contingency.

Kids born 2008-2016 will be aware that their first president was a non white man. regardless of how u feel about his politics, that's in itself is a needle pusher and will start redefining age old symbols and criterias that are out of date and nob applicable to our lives now

I'm black and I'm from New Orleans and I can say I have never had a problem with the cops. I do not hate the police unlike you, TPoS. The reason you didn't get hurt is because you got the right complexion for the protection.

The reason there was so much backlash against taking the flag down is because people are tired of having to be politically correct because someone's feelings are hurt. The was no tangible damage to the black community and was all about feelings like you stated:

The first idea you have to succumb to to actually believe in white privilege is that most Americans are racist. And when I say racist I mean racist in a way that it affects their actions.

Outside of some rouge groups that get much more shite about being racist than apparently blacks get for breaking the law (for as we have seen in this thread, resisting arrest is a much more forgivable action than flying a Confederate flag in some circles). The world is not against blacks. If you actually do run into a out and out racist he is usually in no position of power to hold you down.

So lets assume the "system" is racist. Then lets start naming names. Is the DMV racist? How about Section 8 housing authority? Are they putting more whites into assisted living places than whites? Lets talk about the IRS. Tax rates different for blacks as opposed to whites? What I'm trying to say is lets get down to what "white privilege" is cause I don't see it.

Cops beat down people regardless of race. I can see how it can seem like racism to a black person. I'm white so when a person is a dick to me I just say "that person is a dick. If I were black then I might wonder if it was because of my skin color. But when you let your self-conscious feelings about yourself (including whether or not you are too black or not black enough) then it starts to seep into your everyday thinking. Then everybody becomes racist in your mind when they really aren't.

I'd love for white privilege to be quantified.

I'll be honest about my motivations here.

I look around me and I see bad shite going down in the black community. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your view) I'm white so I can't say shite about it. I will be considered racist by some.

The bad shite I see happening is the victimization of young black kids. When you grow up thinking the world is against you then what motivation do you have to achieve anything?

Asians have been discriminated against. Jews were killed by the thousands. Why are their cultures so damn prosperous? Because they aren't victims. They TRUELY are the ones that overcome.

Get the family unit straight. 70% of kids born with only one parent? That's down right shameful.

Family and education will do it. Not taking a flag down. Not defending a criminal. People are spinning their wheels.
