I have Dolph Lundgren follow me everywhere, and if tragedy strikes he just steps forward and says

Yes. Have them feed you Chipotle.

I’ve been in a coma for 7 days with very little hope and woken up like a spring chicken out of nowhere. There is always hope.
I spent a month in one and spent three years physically recovering. I still use a cane four years later. I signed the paperwork before I even left the hospital. I understand that family members can revoke but my wife and parents understand what I went through and I'm confident they'll respect my wishes.

DNRs are only issued by a Doctor

We attorneys draft your health care documents -- typically a living will that declares what you want to have happen if you're in an end of life situation, and a health care surrogate/health care power of attorney naming someone to make health care decisions if you become incapacitated.

Wouldn’t this be addressed with a living will?

No.

A living will is nothing more than a person stating their wishes in advance.

A DNR is a physician’s order. It carries more weight.

What exactly caused it is a mystery but I developed sepsis after a surgery. I was rushed back into emergency surgery (my intestine was leaking into my bloodstream) and just never came back up from the anesthesia. While I was under my muscles atrophied and I couldn't move anything but my arms when I woke up. It took 6 months just to get out of a wheelchair.

Are you suggesting a living will doesn't carry weight?

They're two separate documents. Living wills are very important

All I know is I want someone to put a bullet in my head if I'm ever diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. Horrible disease.

Damn. That must have been horrible.

I almost died from a ruptured appendix at 13 and all of that bile backing up in my body was what nearly killed me.

I was like 145 lbs when I went in and like 90 when I got out.

That wasn't even the worst part. Most people don't dream or remember anything from their coma. I got to spend 4 weeks locked into a nightmare I couldn't wake up from. I'll pass on the next coma.

It's no joke. I was 260 (at 5'8" ) when I went in, 215 when I left the hospital and 145 now. I'm positive my obesity was a major factor, if not the biggest factor in my poor outcome. The bright side is it forced me to take control of my weight and my health.

Yeah, that's really heavy for 5'8".

I wasn't overweight or anything. My issue was a misdiagnosis for several weeks. I spent close to 100 days in the hospital. A lot of the first several weeks in and out of consciousness.

I never have asked my dad how much all that cost

Well shite I don’t have anyone else. It’s either my wife or kinfolk.

My Mom is that person for my Grandpa, her father in law
She has full POA, has the copies of his will & DNR with Advanced Directive
She is not named in the will

If you have a daughter in law that you can trust & the others in the family agree that may work, it works for our family but may not for everyone

Me: How aggressive would you like us to be with your Mother?
Pt's Daughter: Do everything you can.
Me: She's had a stroke and hasn't spoke for years , wears a diaper, has a feeding tube, don't you think 99 years is a good life.
Pt's Daughter: I can't let her go.
Me: So you want us to beat on her chest very possibly breaking every rib in her body? We will then put her on a breathing machine and if she can feel pain she will hurt every time the machine makes her breath. Do you think this is what God would want for your Mom
Pt's daughter: I can't let her go

My Idea: On your 80th Birthday. You get a free lunch at Picadilly or Luby's (or what the old folks restaurant of choice). When they show up ask them their DNR status.
If they are Alert and oriented x3, they make the decision. If they can't go (for chronic issues) or don't know who they are. You ask the family. The family says full code tell them they will pbe responsible for the bill for the code. Last time I checked it was $35,000 to get out of the ER.
