How do you see what items recently sold for on an item you are about to list ?

Never used eBay, but always wondered how safe if buy stuff off of it. Anything you look for when buying so you don’t get scammed or screwed over?

Check the seller rating and reviews, and I think they have buyer protection anyway.

I'm by no means an avid Ebay user, but I've bought and sold stuff on it and never had a problem.

You cannot see what recently sold, at least not search for it. Best bet is to look for something that you want to list that is currently for sale, watch it, and see selling price.

If you are logged in, you should be able to search for an item, and in the advanced options see items that the listings have ended, and items that sold.

View completed auctions. I used to sell on eBay all the time. It's best to have at least 3 accounts so you can get into a bidding war with someone over the items you have listed.

you can type in the name or description — one of the options is “show completed listings” and that way you can see what similar items sold for

Do a search for what you're selling and on the left towards the bottom there is a "show only" option...click the "sold" box.

When you lost the item and are setting the price, eBay actually provides comparables to you to assist. It gives you a range as well which helps you to effectively sell the item.

Since the other question was answered I will cover this one.

eBay is arguably the safest shopping portal on the internet. If an item doesn't arrive, is the wrong item or is not as listed it is very easy to get eBay to step in if the seller does not respond and make the transaction right. You also have easy access to the feedback the seller has garnered while on eBay. Further if unsatisfied with eBay's decision (if you file a claim) which as a buyer is unlikely since they are very buyer-centric with their decision you still have Paypal to fall back on as well. Most sellers on eBay also have long return periods and if they choose those they are held to them by eBay.

The bottom line is with every eBay purchase you are covered by multiple mostly buyer facing protections. It is one of the least worrisome places to buy goods from. You can get some amazing deals on things then again some things are overpriced.
