What's the scoop? I can only imagine it's better then the outdated airframe of the Prowler. Can a pilot and WSO work the systems better then the four in the prowler?

Yes. In case you haven't noticed, there have been a few advances in automation and electronics since the Intruder airframe was designed in the 50's.

It's ten million times better than the Prowler. The navy needs a shite ton more of them. They worked miracles in 2011 during odyssey dawn.

The prowler shared the same wing design as the Intruder, but the airframe design was from 1966, with many upgrades over the life of the plane with the last prowler being produced in 1991. Most of the fleet had electronic countermeasure systemsthat were upgraded in the 1990s, and a couple of dozen were updated as late as 2010.

Yes. Weapon systems and Navi upgraded to an extreme.

Worked on them for 3 years. Avionics wet dream.

The capability of those growlers is insane. The first time we ran through the range in Fallon, we landed and the ops O for the base told us to shut down all jamming equipment as it was fricking up and I quote " every single SAM simulation site up and down the valley"

As quoted by Tomcat Pilots after seeing the film "Fighter pilots make movies, bomber pilots make bad movies"

The original line from the movie.....

Fighter pukes make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY!

Makes sense.

The movie was cheesy but Tom Sizemore was in it. Banging whores and drinking Budweiser. Which I'm sure he still does. Just upgraded to heroin or meth.

I looked one over about five years ago and was surprised that they were still using the same ALQ-99 jamming pods as the Prowler, the NFO with the plane said Grumman was working on upgrades, maybe they have them by now.
