This trend was called Jailin’. Hence the name, it did originate in jail where belts were taken away before an arrestee was placed in holding. Back in the day when everyone wore pants that fit normally, they would eventually sag.
Now, why this was a look that needed to be emulated, is a question I cannot answer.
Even more perplexing is why now, they just pull them down to expose the whole arse.
