Do you watch them take the instruments out of the package?

A few years ago I represented a nail business that was sued for allegedly causing a woman to lose the nail on her great toe and suffer bacterial infection as a result of allegedly using instruments that were not fully sterilized. I got that case dismissed, but from what I read and learned about the risks, I pass on the procedure now.
Interesting. I enjoy the sanding of the callouses and the rubbing of my legs and feet. I can cut my own nails and cuticles. I may pass on the cutting next time and tell them to sand and rub

Paige, I only had one years ago. The woman who sued my client said that she watched the person remove the instruments from the package. My client insisted that the instruments were properly sterilized. We said her problems were not caused by the pedicure. They had a doctor who said the problems were caused by the pedicure. The literature I read and the doctor I hired said the pedicure could have been the cause. I got that case dismissed, but I thought we could lose had we gone to trial.

How do you know what my closet looks like?

I had back trouble and could not get down to cut my nails. I asked my GF for help - she said she doesn't cut her own toe nails, and she wasn't about to do mine. She took me to her spa - beautiful Asian women working over you feet: messages, rubs, hot towel treatment, etc. What's not to like about this.

You posted a pic of it here.
And apparently I’m creepy, sorry.

Make certain that you see them take the instruments out of the sterilizer and that the water is clean and sterile. Bacterial infections can occur if they aren't.
People of advanced age, like me, need to be especially careful if they suffer Type II diabetes.

My wife went with me today and we were talking later about how the workers chat in Vietnamese and she said there is an earbud that is a real-time translator and I so want to buy one to hear what they’re saying

Yep, my clients were Vietnamese. They were delightful people, but I was always wondering what they were saying when they would speak to one another in Vietnamese before answering me in English.
I kept thinking of the Sam Kinison 7-11 routine: "Marlboro! Marlboro! Smokie, Smokie! I should have shot your arse in Da Nang when I had the chance!" You gotta make your own fun in our business, boosie.

We have an offshore fishing and shrimping community close to where I live and there is a large Vietnamese population who work the boats. We got a guy injured on a boat a very nice settlement (he had some serious injuries and liability was clear), and he thinks we hung the moon. He’s brought many Vietnamese to us with varying legal problems since then. I just settled a car accident for a lady who worked at a nail shop. They work hard and are generally decent people. I enjoy working with them a lot.
And I also got a sweet hookup for fresh shrimp right off the boat

The Vietnamese people are very hard working. This client was referred to me by a Vietnamese lawyer I know. The wife of the owner kept getting mail from an insurer which she thought was advertising and she kept throwing it out. It was their renewal. So they were uninsured. They hired me knowing that I defended cases for the first 22 years of my practice.
These people were so very happy with the result I got for them they have referred many of their friends to me. I have enjoyed working for them and they appreciate the effort I put out for them. Not every client does.

My wife works in commercial insurance and she just started laughing hysterically at the throwing away the renewal

Yeah, I felt bad for the wife. She (who was the manager of the salon) spoke very little English and the husband (the owner of the salon)said that he thought the insurance from the prior owner was in effect. He was clearly miffed at his wife and, apparently, ALL mail went through him thereafter!
