Started out working in a small bank and sat in one of these "board meetings". For the most part they'll basically approved/declined commercial and business loans and show up to collect their board member stipend. Most of members were early investors in the bank. It's an easy gig.

I think Jake Delhomme is on the board of Iberia Bank. Or one of the banks out of Laffy. Not surprising for Brees

a Board of Directors is made up of people with business expertise in the company's sector who are relied upon to guide the business strategically and help it grow
Every board that I have had any association with is made up of mainly 'political' types who bring PR to the organozation. The 'expertise' is provided by the hired help

Several of my friends are on Boards of banks. None of them knows shite about banks. They all have lots of money, though.
This, either they or they represent someone who invested a shite ton of money into the bank. Many of them have worked outside the finance industry. I worked for a few banks, one we worked for one of the board members was a retired firefighter but was on the board because the firefighter's pension invested tons of money in the bank.
