This is pretty cool.
I remember those ads from when I was kid, it was a big deal when that came out, the teacher at school brought a mag with an article about it and passed it around class

have you ever seen Dallas from a DC-9 at night?

Flew on them a lot in the 80s. One thing about the DC-9 - the descents could be real steep. A pilot once told me the plane design was well suited to come down fast, which saved fuel because less friction up high.

no steeper than any other jet transport
jet transports have to demonstrate that they can descend from max cert. altitude to 14,000' in four minutes

This is cool but when flying as a kid...I absolutely HATED the dc9 compared to the 727. Dc9 always looked cheap to me.

It's amazing how a company known for bean counting over great engineering in McConnell-Douglas produced such an unbelievable workhorse that lasted for decades.
The DC-9, MD-88, MD-90, and DC-9 and MD-95 (later sold as Boeing 717).
How the hell did that happen?
Damn shame McDonnell Douglas was allowed to survive and took over Boeing's board and flushed the engineers out and put profit above safety.
