I know the 1 day hopper pass for florida residents is cheaper.....
Can you get a florida resident to buy your pass online and then you pay them and use it at the gate?
Or do they make you show ID at the gate to get in?

I'd imagine they make you show ID. Isn't worth the risk to pay all that money and get caught trying to save a few hundred bucks.

Have a relative that works there. Free passes and 30%-50% (depending on time of year) off most everything in the park. Not to mention free place to stay as well. 
Florida resident stuff has to show Florida ID. Don't bother with it if you are not a Florida resident.
