You should anyway. Otherwise, you're unnecessarily exposing your dog to all sorts of pathogens.

Also, vets aren't getting paid by Science Diet or any other company.

A lot of the same issues such as Salmonella are a risk with dry kibble as well. It's more of a people hazard than anything. Raw food is not for everyone and I don't recommend everyone do it. I have actually been thinking of getting off of it since I have a daughter that will start to get more mobile in a few months. There are a lot of decent kibble brands out there that won't break the bank.

Vets do make a good chunk of change by selling dog food products in their offices. It's pretty well known now and there really is no use in denying that income supplement for Vets.

Well my relatives and friends that are vets sure are missing out! I'll make sure to tell them. I've asked them to their face and they've laughed at me.

More than just Salmonella.

Several studies1–6 reported in peer-reviewed scientific journals have demonstrated that raw or undercooked animal-source protein may be contaminated with a variety of pathogenic organisms, including Salmonella spp, Campylobacter spp, Clostridium spp, Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, and enterotoxigenic Staphylococcus aureus. Cats and dogs may develop foodborne illness after being fed animal-source protein contaminated with these organisms if adequate steps are not taken to eliminate pathogens

Why even sell a low rated food in their office?

There is more than just Salmonella in kibble as well. There is all sorts of toxic shite they put in there. I haven't been sick and my dog is doing great on it. Find what works with your dog and run with it.

Seriously, the AVMA recommends cats not eat carcasses... Have you ever met anything as healthy as a barn cat that fricks up the shite out of some birds and mice. Dogs and cats aren't people they can eat raw meat, especially cats, they are nature's murdering machines.

Royal Canin is a con job. It pays it's Vets to spew it's garbage. RC is not a great brand at all. It's mid tier at best and way overpriced for being mid tier.

Yeah. Dogfoodadvisor.com confirms that. Royal Canin doesn't have a food higher than 3.5 stars. I'm sure it's still good, just wanted to point that out.

I made the switch to Candiae all life stages yesterday and my dogs love it so far. It does still have some grains, but it's overall wayyy better than what I was feeding them and a bit cheaper in total.

Maybe it's not as bad as what dogfoodadvisor.com says?

Yeah, it really is amazing that it is allowed to be sold.

LOL at Science Diet haters. Just feed your dog, and he/she will live as long as they are supposed to live with good care.

My last dog ate Science Diet, had ZERO issues for 17 fuc#ing years until he developed seizures.

Is it the food Mike?
It's not the food Mars!

Who cares what they say, compare ingredients for yourself. It's the same shite that is in the mid tier stuff. Just buy the cheaper stuff if that is what you want to feed your dog. Why buy that insanely priced shite from a Vet? Do you go buy your vegetables and meat from your general practice doctor?

Does anyone know of another option for a high fiber food other than Blue Buffalo?
We currently use the Blue Wilderness Weight Management (only because we need the fiber around 9-10%). I have not had any luck with another brand where the fiber is at or above 8%.

Have you ever been on dogfoodadvisor.com before?

They break everything out ingredient by ingredient, tell you why or why not that ingredient is good and bad, breakout the protein, fat and carb content % of each food, and then write a review and rank each food based on a 5 star system.

I've also never bought food from the vet...ever. You need to chill.

I feed my dog Fromm and am very happy. He's 8 and the Vet says he's a beautiful specimen. My neighbor down the street always comes out to pet him when we walk by because according to her he's got dat good fur.

purina has been making dog chow since 1894 (along with food for horses, cows, rabbits, goats, chickens, pigs, birds, fish, etc..

there was a single recall for salmonella in Aug 2013 that affected a single 3.5lb bag and no further bags were found to have this problem yet purina recalled that lot anyway.

exactly

my cat brings rabbits, mice, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, all kinds of diseased carcasses into the house and my dog goes nuts and eats them. no seizures or doggy cancer yet.
