Which accent? There’s at least 5 different variations. Yat? Uptown? Gentilly? 9th ward? Maybe try returning more frequently than every 20 years to decide if a “New Orleans” accent is still alive and well? I’ve lived there for quite a spell (not a native) and I can say positively and thankfully “yes”. Love how this board loves to shite on NOLA but the second you leave the state and people ask “where are you from” the answer is “New Orleans”.

My in-laws have it strong. I don’t notice it much on my husband, but everyone we knows does. I think maybe I’m just used to it now.
I agree though it seems to be dying.

The Chalmette and yat accents are annoying
The Lower class urban accent is probably the most notable
The middle class accent is the best, we say "New Or-lee-enzh"

Just go to Chalmette / St. Bernard for an accent. Most, if not all, have “da parish” accent.
But that accent is gross

Since moving to the Northshore I’ve noticed that Mandeville and Covington natives (not SS transplants) have a variation of a NOLA accent, but certainly less pronounced.

"Supposably"
"You can call me at none-ate-fove, fove-fove-fove, none-none-fove-fove."
"Three Blonde Mice, Three Blonde Mice..."

When I was in Texas, my landlord was a baw from down the river in Plaquemine Parish.
That guy had been in TX for 30 years and still had a NOLA accent...
