Your post got buried in the thread, but Jan 18, 2038 at 10:14:08 PM CST could be a much bigger issue to resolve.
If anything it will give the technology industry a good reason to make a lot of money by upgrading any old 32-bit systems that still may be around in 2036/2037.

Some of the issues already started cropping up years ago, though, such as mortgages and other calculations that look decades into the future. I'm sure a lot of stuff has already been fixed. I can't say that there will be any major problems, but there will definitely be some panic and I do think there are millions or billions of embedded systems that will need to be replaced or worked around.

eeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I don't know about "scam"..they certainly took the idea and ran with it, and certainly fearmongered it. But the fact is that in that specific moment in time we really didn't KNOW what was gonna happen with technology, and all the BS that was spewed did at least seem plausible. It wasn't that far fetched to be leery of, although granted they took it to the nth degree.
When I think of "media scam", I think of shite that the media KNOWS with full certainty is one way, but presents another. Covid being the latest example.

Definitely. Those of us in the pipeline, refinery, or plant automation industry have many 32-bit embedded systems currently deployed that will need to be phased out by then.
The banking and financial services industry as you mentioned that look at specific future dates will have to make changes to legacy 32-bit time based systems if they haven't already.
I won't be working anymore by the time action needs to be taken, but it will be an interesting process to follow starting in about 10 years from now.
