I wanna do a Maine and Newfoundland trip. Rates seem reasonable.

Bar Harbor and Kennebunkport, also, Portland. Beautiful. Love to vacation there. But, winters are brutal. Heck, spring is brutal.

As my name implies, I live in Maine. I met my wife while in the military and she is originally from here. We live in Winterport, a sleepy coastal town near Bangor. I love the summer here as well as the last piece of spring and beginning of fall. There aren't many better locations for an outdoorsman. The winters, however, are brutal. We got buried this year. Most of my property is still covered in snow.

One friend's parents retired there from north Louisiana. His Father loved that he could garden intensively for four months and put away enough food for the year, and then do nothing.

A friend from Virginia married up there and lasted thirty years and then moved to Florida for the warmth (along with almost everyone else she and her husband knew from their city.) The cold just got old.

Get used to paying tolls on main roads and long daylight hours in summer and precious little daylight (cloudy mostly) in winter.

Acadia National Park is beautiful - especially in the fall when the leaves are changing.

Inland it can be brutal but its not as bad near the coast. Beautiful place and unspoiled. Lived on Harpswell Neck for 3 months in the 90s.

Its also a kick in the arse to see the locals named Boudreau, Thibodeau and Cormier.

Been up there a few times. Been to Bar Harbor/Acadia NP for a week while in college with the girlfriend. We've been to Portland, Popham Beach, all over the state. It's awesome in the summer, beautiful really... I would not want to go there in the Winter though. That would be hell. Water stays cold year round though... Don't go in the water there unless you're willing to accept that your dick is going to shrivel up inside of your body.

I have been twice to visit my stepdad's family. His family lives in St. Albains which is way up north. Maine is so much larger than the other NE states it is ridiculous. I found the people nice, but, of all the Northern states, it is the most like the South in how the people act. Think MS but without the letter R in their vernacular.

Went to grad school in Orono in the late 80s. Loved it, but there was little opportunity upon graduation.
