I do. I'll pull my phone out if I see a plane overhead and check where it came from and where it's going.

I've got almost 30,000 hours flying jets and I cannot resist looking up when a plane flies over to see what it is

I don't have near your hours, but I've been flying since I was 14 & still look up.

Do y’all watch the turbulence forecast when flying or is that shite worthless? It makes me feel better if I know it’s going to be a shite show before we take off.

My mother in law had a situation a few years ago where she had to be airlifted from a pretty remote spot. I remember tracking the inbound helicopter and then giving family members the Eta to New Orleans. They thought I was a wizard.

My mother in law is ok!

Well, there goes my evening. Now I'm gonna listen to that one airliner who's been circling over the gulf waiting to go to Houston

I love flightaware! I look at it pretty much every day at one time or another. Check out the Memphis airport at about 11 Or 12 at night when the FedEx aircraft are arriving….holy shite, that is amazing!

I used to be able to tell what it was before looking by the engine noise/airframe whistle, harder to do with airliners anymore but I can usually identify the military planes, especially your Herk

I use FlightRadar24, but same concept. I enjoy seeing where planes that I see in the sky are going.

I had an Airbus A380 fly almost over me one night a few weeks ago. It was flying from Houston to Dubai. Unfortunately it was dark, so I couldn’t see it. Also used it to help catch a glimpse of a 747 taking off from Birmingham a couple of weeks ago (which is rare for Birmingham).

Oh yeah, those are fun. I have a buddy who is a an A/P lead mechanic for UPS. He always sends me the flight numbers when he catches a lift.

I look at it all the time when I see a plane flying over. Best is when I'm on top a mountain and the sky is clear. It's just intriguing to see a plane flying and realizing that's 200+ people flying thru the sky from Chicago to Orlando.

I also use it when flying to track the plane that I'm going to be boarding and seeing where they have been throughout the day.

We had about an 80” monitor in our approach control with traffic on it. We could filter it multiple ways, including color coded targets for different destinations. There’s a whole lot of traffic over America on any given day.

A couple years after I retired, I was piddling with something outside when a low flying aircraft flew overhead. I didn’t look up and my wife standing close by remarked, Honey, I think you might be finally cured! Took me a minute to figure out what she meant, but we had a good laugh soon after.

I actually use it in the cockpit when the weather is bad to see what routes the aircraft ahead of me are taking through the storms and ask for PIREPS from them.

Like, “Memphis center, can you get a PIREP from Delta 2360 on the ride through that line of weather?” The controllers usually cooperate but I’ve never had one ask me how I knew what aircraft were ahead of me though.

I use Flightradar24 regularly when I’m waiting on an inbound aircraft and sometimes in flight. It’s great for finding opposing traffic.
