The PTAC unit in my home office/beer room crapped out during a thunderstorm last week. It won't power on at all (AC, heat or fan). I'm having a helluva time trying to find anyone that will call me back, much less come look at it to repair. Everybody I talk to either passes me on to someone else, who they assure me works on them (which they invariably don't) or doesn't bother to call back.

I imagine it's probably in need of a new main power board or capacitor. But I don't want to start ordering parts off the internet when I don't know what the true problem is.

FWIW, it's a 2005 G/E Zoneline model #AZ28E15DABM1. Parts don't appear terribly expensive, which is probably why nobody wants to call me back.

Anybody know someone or can point me in the right direction?

Too late, already signed him up for dicpics.com mailing list.

And if he doesn't work out, any HVAC contractor should be able to service a PTAC.

Should, yes. Want to? No. At least all the ones I've tried.

damn, that sucks. Guess cause its summertime, guys are too busy doing other repairs.

PTACs are pretty cheap. If its too much trouble, they are probably going to want to just change it out.

Where do you inhabit?

I figure that's exactly the deal. It's just not worth their while when there are bigger fish to fry.

Still, I'd like to avoid spending $1,000 on a new PTAC if I can spend $150 to repair the one I have.

PTACs are more like window units than whole house units. Falls in the realm of Appliance repair.

Any refrigeration specialist Appliance guy should take it, but they aren't cheap.

Already did. They punted to someone else who told me they wish Stanton would stop sending people to them because they don't work on them.

Aren't they also used heavily by schools and such? Seems like anyone with knowledge of Motels or school maintenance they would know who to talk to.
