Sometimes my cardiologist gets called to the ER to see someone who is dying. Other times, he has to go do emergency surgery.

I know that because I was the guy in the ER before who pulled him away from his appointment.

Lots of doctors have no idea who they will see each day that go to work. Just depends on how many emergencies they have that bump their appointments.

In the military, we had triage. If someone was dying, they ignored them to work on someone they could save. Can't do that in a hospital without getting sued. In the military, they would ignore a not so seriously injured patient to work first on those who were seriously injured. Can't always do that in a hospital without getting sued.

In a capitalistic society you would bypass those with no insurance to work on your wealthy or well insured patients first. Can't do that in many hospitals because they have been sued too many times.

What did Shakespeare write? "Kill all the lawyers first."

Cade:

I thank you, good people—there shall be no money; all shall eat and drink on my score, and I will apparel them all in one livery, that they may agree like brothers, and worship me their lord.

Dick:

The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers.

Cade:

Nay, that I mean to do.

Always . . . ALWAYS, schedule your appointment for the last appointment time of the day. I schedule my for 4:40 p.m., which is the last appointment time that my doctor will schedule. Two reasons:

1. They can't waste my whole work day, only the last few minutes of it; and,

2. They want to go home too.

I've never gotten out of my doctor's office for any routine appointment any later than 5:15.
