I see athletes a little differently. They obviously work very hard to perform at a high level. So if a kid wants to emulate a player's hard work, dedication and skill, I see no problem with that. There are nut jobs like Johnny Manziel that obviously don't deserve to be noticed, but there are better role models in athletes than actors, singers, porn stars, etc.

Asking whether they "should" or "shouldn't" is a moot question. They are, and they always will be. That's just the way it is. Some are great role models for kids, while some aren't.
Like others have said, it's ultimately up to the parent to be the kids main role model and to mold their world perspective as a little human being.

Actors, singers, and musicians who have reached the celebrity level also work very hard to perform at a high level. Not sure about port stars, but to my knowledge, children don't generally idolize porn stars in such a way.
