Normal size lot in a Houston suburb.
So yes. A large lot in H-town is .5 acres that’s including the land the house is on.

Haven’t cut grass in 9 years. My brother in law has a lawn care business and gives me a discount.

That is what you pay the pool boy for. To frick your wife while you watch in the chair.

I cut my own grass bc I can’t fathom paying someone to do it. Frugality inherited from my father, who at least paid me $10 to mow the yard, as opposed to just giving me money. I had all girls so couldn’t slough off the task on my kids.

I had a medical issue that stopped me from cutting grass at the beginning of June, this year and wifey hired a crew to cut the grass. I thought I'd be back at it in July, but I actually found other things to do with my time, rather than cutting the grass for three hours on a weekend. I wash our cars, maintain hedges and bamboo, exterior house maintenance, line up projects inside the house, do something enjoyable outside of the home, etc. I have found I just switched my focus and am enjoying the freedom on the weekends!

Make them do it.
That's what I did, but with an 18yo and a 20yo im realizing as they're in college and the AF I'll be back cutting very soon.

Funny, this subject comes up now...only a day after I got my Kubota zero-turn out of the shop from its' latest repair needs. This time it was a broken idler arm and pulley, plus a new drive belt.
I told them I didn't want any extra work done, just fix the obvious problem which left me in the middle of the yard with a mower unable to move or cut. I didn't want them to rack up hours doing routine stuff that I could do myself. Still, the bill was $642, with $424 going toward the labor and $23 going toward shop supplies like paper towels, etc.
Now I'm beginning to compare hiring out or maintaining my yard and equipment myself. Seems every year my mower is in the shop for something or another and the cost is usually near $1000 or more. That's crazy!

Cut , edge, service equipment, etc. my own. It's just over an acre and I'm retired and not on a schedule to have everything done in 1 day.

But I can't bring myself to hire somebody because I can't get over shelling out dollars for something I can do.
Successful people don't look at it this way. They put a price on their time. If they can delegate jobs out like cutting grass, and they can shift focus on growing their business or career, they can outperform the concept of saving money by doing it themselves. I finally convinced my BIL of that concept and he is happy as a clam and doing better financially.
Go to a wealthy neighborhood. Most everyone subs grass/landscaping out. They focus on what they do best. For the ones doing it themselves, it is usually a retiree who is bored out of his mind and needs sanity.
Now if its a hobby and therapeutic, that is different.

I do because they’d want $300 a week for some shite that takes me 2 hours.
Who charges $300 to mow a lawn?
