Exactly
The seat belt makes good sense. The law does not.

Why is this a question?

I buckle mine to the hood. When they learn to shut up, they can ride inside.

That's where you are wrong, get in an accident and hurt those people then you'll figure out who you are responsible for

first off, driving is not a right. its a privilege.
secondly, I dont want to be responsible for your dumbass medical bills because you are too cool to wear a seatbelt

Insurance lobby driven legislation, mike

First off, we aren't talking about actually driving a vehicle, but nanny government running your lives like a wet nurse.

Secondly, you should be less concerned in paying for medical bills you won't pay for, and more in your government running every facet of your fricking life.

Always, grandchildren too. When the leave my house I always remind them to buckle up.
Auto dealers, safety offices should have seatbelt demos that are of an active type so doubters can feel how they work.

No question... And it's not like I think people shouldn't buckle up or wear helmets, but for their own damn good, not because government thinks people need a mommy. People get real upset when you tell them there's a law against selling alcohol on Sundays, and for good reason, but they give this nanny shite a pass. It boggles my mind how people can't see the error in this kind of legislation. Like fricking robots. They do as they are told, and even go to bat for it too.

You don't think you are going to be responsible for injuries you cause?

Yes

That's because you cannot use evidence of the lack of a seatbelt as a way to mitigate damages in LA. The insurance industry is trying to insulate itself from a stupid law.

Then, if I was in the wrong, I may if my body caused someone else injury, and so I should be held responsible for it if I live. If I was not in the wrong, then no, that's not my responsibility.

I also would rather not have to wait in traffic because the whole damn road had to be shut off for a wreck involving some idiot without a seatbelt. It takes a lot longer to clean up somebody's brains in a car or on the pavement than it would for someone wearing a seatbelt.

Well now, there's another great reason for nanny government.

So when you get in an accident with a massive head and spine injury that leaves you incapable of caring for yourself for the remainder of your years, you exhaust all of your assets in paying for such care, and then apply for Medicaid, who ends up paying that bill? Answer: the taxpayers.
I get that some people say the govt shouldn't mandate this upon your personal freedoms, but then it makes no sense how the govt will be stuck with the tab after you've exhausted all of your assets. You wear no belt, govt gets to pull plug and save it's/my money
