I usually turn the AC off before I start it. I've always done it. Just a habit.

I never just start the engine, immediately put it in drive and drive away. I let it run for a minute or so to let the lubrication begin doing it's thing. Most of the engine wear comes from cold starts, and by cold I don't mean temperature necessarily, I mean cold as in the oil hasn't had a chance to lubricate the engine after sitting for a while.

Lucas oil stabilizer is a nice wallet lightening product. It thickens oil and degrades the properties of motor oil in general. It is not good for cold environments or anything really.

Sure as hell not cold enough in a LA winter to justify that. Up here in PA I gave my truck a few minutes when it was in the single digits a few times, usually while I was scraping the windshield. With full syn 0W-30 the oil is pumping just fine before I even release the clutch.

It's really bad to load diesels cold.
Gas engines don't mind it as much but it still isn't good for them. I crank mine up and let it run for 10 or 15 seconds at least before driving if I can help it. I don't run it hard unless it's at operating temp.

Someone finally nailed it. And you mean oil operating temp, right? Some people actually think when the water/coolant is at operating temp the engine is warmed up and ignore oil.

I generally turn the key with my right hand as I'm hitting my garage door opener with my left. It warms up just as long as it takes for my old creaky garage door to open, then it is reverse until I'm backed out and off I go. Do they even make remote starters for a manual transmission?

No. I don't have any way to monitor that other than how much oil pressure drops at idle.
Wear is accelerated when the engine is cold because nothing fits right when it's cold. By the time jacket water reaches operating temp the rest of the block and guts are close enough to not worry about it. Don't worry about the oil temp too much. It's made to work over a very wide temperature range.

Yes. I wouldn't have one though, especially if you're in the habit of parking your car in gear.

I usually do. But it would be pretty much pointless for me anyways. I have a garage at home, and park in a covered deck at work. By the time I was in range for the remote to work, it would only have about a minute to warm up before I got in. I was just curious.

If you're using the proper viscosity for the ambient temp you crank your car in, it doesn't matter. The oil as well as the engine's oiling system are made to work over a very wide temperature and pressure range.

I've heard of people doing it and putting in a bunch of safeties to keep you from remote starting in gear. I don't think I trust myself enough to use that though.
