The pipeline is not on their land, its 1 to 2 miles from their land. They are protesting a bunch of BS now that it is close to be paid. If the "burial site" and other things were such a big deal to them, why would they wait until now?
gotcha, this makes sense
and they "found" the burial site like a day or two before they were supposed to start work??

They pay nothing and get a few grand a month for it.
So downtrodden.
So downtrodden.

It was a few months, but yeah it was discovered after the route didn't go through their property (thus no $$$)

this seems pretty black and white to me...
so it isnt their land, just a mile or two away...
i dont understand the outrage, is it just because of the "burial site" they discovered or is there something more? do they just not want it close to the burial site or will it be destroyed in construction?

ok, this is making more sense now, so since it isnt going through their property, they arent getting paid, so they are trying to find a reason to get paid
boom, we found a burial ground!!!! pay us!
I would assume this "burial ground" would need to be verified by someone independent and if it is in fact one I would also assume as many steps as possible would be taken to preserve it

It's drive by a combination of environmentalists who are using it as a tool to make oil more expensive (making renewables more competitive) and idiots who think that having highly flammable trains going across our country is somehow safer for anyone.

To take it further than that, "well known" Indian Rights activists DiCaprio, Jessy jackson, Mark Ruffalo, etc are using the Indians to protest the pipeline because of Environmental "concerns".

Native Americans are the ones who really gets a raw deal in this country.

I bet they wouldn't complain if a casino was being built there instead.

Quite a contrast between the reaction to these protesters and the reaction to the Oregon wildlfe refuge takeover.

Yes, I do. I think they're pawns. Useful idiots.

The question is, why are they being attacked by dogs and the like?

Worked with a guy years ago who got $1200/month.

But in regards to the newly discovered artifacts, is that on their property as well? I guess that's the confusing part to me. Everyone is saying their land is 1-2 miles away, so what's the issue? Is the issue that the newly discovered artifacts are NOT on their land, but rather right in the pipeline route?

The new artifacts are supposedly closer on the pipeline route (off the reservation). Keep in mind though that this area hasn't been excavated. No one really knows what is or isn't there.

Was the pipeline ever originally supposed to go through their land and thus them being paid for it? Or was it always just going to go nearby?
And if it was going to go nearby, were they protesting before the newly discovered artifacts, or did they only recently start protesting once they allegedly found these artifacts?
