If you draw blood you've gone too far. Still wouldn't call it child abuse unless it's repeated.
So you have to draw blood repeatedly for it to be child abuse or did I read that wrong?
Anytime you draw blood you are most definitely committing child abuse.

Be a man and use your damned hand. At least then you can tel how much pain you are inflicting. A coward uses those other things.
This. I've spanked my children and I'll do it again if needed (probably not as they're 10 and 13), but always with an open hand to the butt. I'm amazed that this many people believe that whipping a child on the back, with a cord is ok.

Maintain your belief. It is far more respectable than claiming a troll after your perspective on a matter is judged absurd by the majority. I understand you thought yours was the popular new age perspective and expected majority agreement but as you see, you are the minority. Now that I see you are mindful enough of conforming to popular opinion, I have concern that you are going to go over board and start beating your daughter to conform. Don't. Stay with what you know as you would not do it safely and effectively. I feel a tad guilty now as I am sure others do.

I consider broken bones, burns, cuts and anything extreme abuse. Bruises...not so much.

Just as bad to the recipient. I'm convinced most of the OT was raised by wolves. Leaving a bruise on your own child? Okay, go ahead and let the ignorance and abuse continue to the next generation. WTF is wrong here?

They're convinced they're right and nothing will change their minds. They think everybody that doesn't beat the shite out of their kids is a "bleeding-heart pussy."

I'm no bleeding heart by any means, but there is a better way to discipline a child than causing bruises. This thread makes me sick to my stomach.

Well considering the fact that some people bruise if you even grab them the wrong way, I don't think bruises are a sure fire way of determining abuse. Hell, my mom left a bruise on my arse after she popped me one good time and I had about 3-4 inches and a good 150 pounds on her.

Yeah, hemophiliacs. Causing anything beyond the basic physical pain of a random spanking is uncalled for.

Just for reference. I saw this on Facebook the other day. It's not uncommon. I got the belt (mom & dad) and the flyswatter (both grandmas)

Posted on 3/4/15 at 11:56 pm to LSUTil_iDie
I "survived" three of them. My mom was way too much of a germaphobe to use a fly swatter. She used the pointy end of her high heeled shoe. I don't find that a reason to use those types of tactics on my own kids.

Using "my parents did it to me and I turned out ok" as an excuse is pathetic. I'm not going to preach to others how they should or shouldn't discipline their children. Just don't hide behind an object when you do it.
Lots of people have survived things that shouldn't have been done to them and turned out just fine. That doesn't mean that what was done to them was right.

I'm gonna say Yes on that because of the damage you could do with it.
I guess you could spank them with a baseball bat as long as you don't hit with power.

I'll leave this here. It was a convincing effort on my part.

I'll be 39 later this month. I grew up with an alcoholic and abusive father. Witnessing my mom get slapped, pushed, and punched was a regular occurrence. We were hit with anything that was near our dad, whether it be the buckle end of a belt or a stick. Crazy way to grow up.
Well this explains your beliefs on spanking.
Move along.

Congrats for the most pathetic thing I've seen on this site in 12 years.
