Illnesses, no, but vets are good at treating injujuries that pets do to themselves like cup up their paws on glass they did not see, etc.
Simple illnesses they can cure too, like food poisoning of a cat or dog or a minor virus. An aquaintance from church just took her "not looking too good" cat to the vet literally yesterday, did a blood test, said it was a virus, gave a powder to add to the cat's food and today cat is as good as new, so they do some good things.
Price was 1200 (including the drugs). Wow.

I vaccine puppy rounds, age 1 and 3. We over vaccinate and wonder why they get cancer and IMHA. Sorry this happened to your dog. 12 is too old for vaccines, shame on her.

I think I've told this story before. Had a female lab that wondered across the highway get hit on a Saturday afternoon. Vet office closed at noon, so I called his house. His wife answered and I told her what happened. Her husband the vet was out in his pasture working. She said she will go get him and meet him at his office. 30 minutes later he showed up and off to work we went. Yes, we. I was the un-official vet tech. The girl was hit on the side and ripped her right arm bad. He sedated her and we cleaned her up and gave her ex-rays. Luckily no broken bones. Stitched her up and brought her home. Took probably 3 hours of just me and him working on her. Brought her home just looking pathetic. My wife and I slowly got her back to walking around and smiling. Yes, Alex was a smiler. Sadly, she died a few weeks later and I asked the vet what was the cause afterwards? He said probably internal bleeding caught up to her. Charged me a few hundred for his trouble because I helped without calling in more help. Old school Vet that had real compassion for his job and his clientele. RIP Dr. Doug Brandon.

Not in my experience. They do an “exam” and various tests, charge you for it, then “refer you to a veterinary specialist” for a thorough bank account flush.
