I remember in elementary school in Louisiana being tested for "GT" Gifted & Talented, but I didn't make it. Do they still have these classes or will the regular kids be too offended??

We did after 3rd grade, it was part-time GT before then.

Yes but in public schools it’s not really for “gifted” kids as it is more for “good” kids whose parents don’t want them in classes with hoodlums

if it isn't based on IQ, then it's not GT, no matter what they call it.

Ours was called ACE. Had the tests at the end of 2nd grade. Started in 3rd. Totally IQ based.

The state lists Gifted/Talented as Special Education and thus by law schools are required to provide individualized education plans for these students.

It's called TAG now. My son was in the TAG art program from 2nd grade to 12. It's not only for academics.

I still have my test results from that. I pull them out when I argue with my wife.

The funny thing was yeah there were a lot of smart kids but at least a third of them didn’t really have the brain power. Lol one of my high school math teachers would have me take a handful of the bottom feeders and work with them throughout class to give them more specialized instruction.

Gifted is IQ. Talented is Music, Theatre or Art

Yes, they still have gifted/talented classes.

In our parish, "gifted" designation is determined by IQ tests, starting with the KBIT and moving onto more advanced screening. "Talented" means kids are talented or above average in music, theater or visual arts. This is usually determined by an audition or a portfolio.

Some schools pull the kids out of regular classes for certain periods of the day for gifted/talented enrichment classes and some schools have students in gifted classes all day.

Got it in Alabama. All of my kids have been in it, but I don't know how helpful it is. My son is smart but has several friends much smarter than he is who were overlooked.

Calcasieu Parish called the gifted/talented “Spark”. Not sure if it was an an acronym or not.

Does northwestern state still have the creative scholars camp? Torrence creative scholar checking in here.
