DIY furniture steam cleaning

Are the steam cleaner rentals at Walmart worth a shite? Got some mud on a cream couch and I was quoted $140 to clean it. Just looking for cheaper options.

No matter what you do, do a little test patch in an inconspicuous spot!
What's the fabric? You don't want to get microfiber/faux suede stuff wet.
I would try one of the foam-to-powder cleaners first that you vacuum off.

They are shite. You need something with a true heater and higher water pressure.

I wouldn't ever rent one- you have no idea what people used it to clean up. Really you have no idea when you have a service come either, but at least their equipment is better quality.
You can get a Hoover Steamvac with upholstery attachment for under $200 and then you always have it when you need it for carpets/rugs/you car/anything.

They aren't steam cleaners you rent, all the Walmart ones do is shoot barely hot water onto it and suck it up.
$140 is a lot for one couch, I got a bunch of furniture cleaned for $150.
