Also, buy a small rotary sander and grits in 200,400,600.

you'll need some 1000 hand sandpaper also.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case.

Putty is pretty easy, so that helps.

OP needs to watch some YT's.

This is what I envisioned when it happened, except cursing my brother out. He knows he messed up but it was an accident, no harm no foul. If it was my main driver or my wife's car then I wouldn't have started a thread. Thank you for the info.

Thanks vette and Stout!

ETA: Also it looks bigger than what it is because of the picture size.

I can't tell from the pic, but if that's black paint on top of the white paint, you should be able to get it off with a light compound and some elbow grease.

Is the car's white paint or clearcoat scratched? Run your finger nail across it. If it's an indentation, then it's scratched into your clearcoat or paint, depending on how deep.

If it's just black paint on top of your clearcoat, it should come out.

Upon closer inspection of the pic, looks like the scratches are through the paint and the black is the plastic bumper showing through.

So basically, you're fricked.

Doing it with a can and having it look good is a major PITA. I did it on the grill of my old Tahoe, and it sucked. It is hard getting a uniform coat out of the cans.

Basically went like this:

Scuff
Blow off
Clean off with alcohol cleaner
Light paint coat
Scuff
Wipe
Paint thicker
Scuff
Wipe
Paint
Paint
Clear
Clear
Compound
Polish
Wax

Or you could get your brother to pay for it, and it'll be done in two days

paint it while blending it in,
I'm not sure if posters are saying to blend the spot with the rest of the bumper or blend with rear of car. I would suggest removing the bumper and painting the entire bumper.

The rest of the bumper. Tape off where the bumper meets the fender.

That's probably what a body shop would do if done correctly.

There's a Russian guy on youtube that uses WD-40 and it worked pretty well.

eta: After reading through the thread and seeing it's likely your actual plastic bumper, you're fricked.

Cool. You went from most difficult to easiest.
Sorry, it looked silver to me. Let me find that website I used.

ETA: Paint

You need primer, base coat (color), and clear.

Watch the vid to see how to blend. I also would buy one of those spray can "handles" they sell at HD or Lowes.

Best advice so far.

You really care about scratches on the bumper of a 10 year old car? How much is the car even worth? 2k?
