Directv for cable, Cox Internet... Only one cable jack.

Posted on the Tech Board, didn't get anything.
We made a few changes to the layout of the house after the flood, and it's about time for me to call Directv and Cox to come out and hook us up. I noticed yesterday that the only cable jack I have now is above the mantle where we plan to hang the TV. Obviously Directv will use this and it will be fine. But will Cox also have to use this same jack with a splitter to hook up the internet? Or do they have to put in a separate cable jack somewhere else?
We were aiming for the wireless look with the TV, but if the cable modem will have to connect back there also, I'm not sure if we can achieve it.
TIA

direct TV and cox have different cable ends. I had similar issue. The tech had to change the ends of the direct tv cables to 'their' own jacks. I assume same thing would go with direct tv.

They will do a separate wall jack. Usually on an exterior wall. They will run a line and drill it through your wall.

Where is the other end of that cable?

The charter internet jack will be in a separate location. The have to plug the router and modem into it so I doubt you want that above your mantle.

We have the same setup in our house we built last year. Cox ran a cable from the pole outside to a box on the side of the house. Then they ran their cable to a closet where my modem and router are.

Just a suggestion, check and see if AT&T fiber internet is available at your house. I have long been a cox customer, but I switched to DirecTV last month and since AT&T bought them out, they are able to bundle everything together. I was planning on keeping my Cox internet, but AT&T has fiber optic service available in my neighborhood and it doubled my speed for $10 more than I was paying for Cox internet.
Just wanted to pass that along.

We had a similar issue and I think they used an adapter for the DTV hookup.

The tech board doesn't have the traffic this board does, but you need to be patient and wait more than 30 minutes. You'll get more accurate responses over there anyway.

no. the jack can't be used for both.

yes. Directv will mount the dish and run the coax in the house. From there they will split their signal to each tv you are connecting to their service. If needed, they can typically run a wire down the wall for you... may charge extra. Cox can do the same, but I'd had more luck paying the directv installers a little cash to get extra work

Cox and DirecTV techs can go in your attic and drop a line to install a new jack if you don't have one in the room/location you want.
Why would you want Cox internet to be using the jack above the mantle? Have Cox install a jack somewhere else so that your modem and router aren't cluttering up your mantle.

It's going to be hard to have the wireless look when you'll need a modem attached to the cable attached to that jack in the wall.
I would tell them to run your cable connection into another room, like the bedroom and install the modem there.
