Reinfeld chess books are basically of two types: primers or quizzes.

You should probably be beyond the primers soon, if not already. But his quiz books are useful no matter your playing level.

From FR's Wiki page:

101 Chess Problems for Beginners (Wilshire, Hollywood, 1960) (ISBN 0-87980-017-8)
1001 Brilliant Chess Sacrifices and Combinations (Sterling, New York, 1955)
1001 Brilliant Ways to Checkmate (Wilshire Books, Hollywood, 1955) (ISBN 0-87980-110-7)
1001 Chess Sacrifices and Combinations (Barnes & Noble, New York, 1959) (ISBN 0-87980-111-5)
1001 Ways to Checkmate (Sterling, New York, 1955)

That's just a few (Reinfeld wrote over 100 books on chess)

High school Chess clubs/teams are common in the Houston area. Offer varsity letters. My college in Houston offered a chess club and varsity letters.
Yep. I went to high school in the Houston area and there was a chess club at my school.

I nerdily got really excited when I captured an opponent’s pawn en passant the other day and realized what a loser I was for getting excited about that

No, but we had a chest club. Two moves and checkmate.

you know you're among the chess nerds when you start hearing en passant anecdotes

You wanna hear about my first time...

That I ever castled queenside?

Still gives me a zing thinking about it

No. And if they did no one would join from fear of getting beat up.

Yes, I was on it.
Had to be in 2 clubs to get into the National Honor Society and the chess club was the least time consuming.
