Fun fact: Beer salt was invented to re-carbonize flat beer.

Interesting responses. I've never seen anybody do this. Sounds like a lot of trouble.
Of course, I like my tequila w/o salt/lime or any other chaser. I like to actually taste it, part of the experience.
My dad was a mechanic and drank his Old Milwaukee cold, but no salt.

The chloride in the salt makes the beer sweeter which counteracts the bitterness from the hops. The sodium makes it taste smoother. These days it's hardly necessary with mass-produced beers since there's barely any hops in them in the first place.
