Coincidence, but I've loved his mom, too.

9 years in the Army and year and a half in Iraq changed me quite a bit...

Repeat this in your head over and over until it finally makes sense to you

"I decide what is right and what is wrong and I don't have to explain it to anybody. I like women but I'm a little afraid of them. I'm not gonna make a commitment because if you make a commitment to a woman they can hurt you. I wont pick a fight with you but if you pick a fight with me or back me into a corner I will fricking kill you." - Steve McQueen mantra

But after the death of my father at 25 and my two remaining grandparents shortly after that (I'm now 32), I had massive personality change. I stopped caring about others almost completely, took a bitter/jaded approach to everything, and stopped being sympathetic and caring towards others.

I'm sorry for your losses, but EVERYONE has to deal with that.

I agree, everyone has to deal with that. I lost my father at 18, and it does change you. While it does happen to everyone, not everyone understands that until it happens to them.

Death of someone that close to you, at a young age, makes you realize that everyone you know and love will eventually die. You have some crazy thoughts after something like that happens, its all about how you deal with it and move on. That's a hard pill to swallow IMO.

Oh I'm not saying it's unique to my life, but it certainly and drastically changed my personality after losing those individuals whom I was very close to.

I figured I would go through the obvious grieving process and still be sad about it off and on down the road, but I did not expect those events to completely revamp my personality and the way I approached life.

To each their own.
