With a recipe that good, that family should have made a fortune. I'm sure they made a nice living, but their distribution was antiquated and limited.
You can only do so much selling 20 pies per day at 300 gas stations. High costs, limited revenue.
I can see why they didn't rebuild. ROI wasn't there. Hopefully they make a nice chunk selling the recipe, and that Krispy Kreme scales it out like the family should have done.

But, but Hostess makes a better product.

I know this because Arti Rome, in typical fashion, posted a drive-by, incendiary post which is counter to prevailing wisdom. What a great addition his presence is to all of TD. Thank god we have him and posters like him.

We will never see the old owners bake a Hubig's pie ever again. best chance is that the rumors of a recipe sale are true and someone else takes over production.
