You're a smart dude but your post is a swing and a miss.
Plus, when you take a D-1 HC job, part of the reason you get paid well is the lack of job security. A goodly percentage get fired. Some move to other jobs. Few retire on their own. No one will have to donate to the Miles' family's further maintenance for a generation or two or three. They'll be OK.
