I inherited a boat from my dad passing a few years ago and finally put it up for sale. The title title for the boat is still in his name so do you know what I would need to get it sold since he left it to me? Can I take death certificate to notary or do you need anything else?

How did he "leave" it to you? In his will?

If so, it's been 10 years since I was the executor of my mom's estate, but you should be able to take the will and the car title to a notary and get the title transferred to you.

Depends on how formal your buyer wants to be about the sale. You may end up having to get a lawyer involved.

Take the Judgment of Possession from dad's succession to the DMV for the trailer and LDWF for the boat, and register into your name, since he left it to you.

Use more than 2 words in your title or admins may anchor your thread. You're welcome.

Title Advice

Two-word titles get anchored. That's my title advice.

Good deal. Most boats in Louisiana don't have titles (when bought new, with no lienholder).

So is it just a bill of sale for the boat to the new owner and the trailer is transferred by title?

On a new boat, with no lienholder, you would get a bill of sale and the dealer (or you) applies for registration (numbers) from the state.

Thus, no actual "title". (this was odd to me as well)

The trailer will have a title, like a car, and a license plate (registration).

A notary can easily do it all for you, with that form I gave you in the link.
