Yes because the ONLY thing petroleum is used for is gas for automobiles.

What state/region are you in and what was your old job? Namely, what skills did you have? If you were looking to Silicon Valley, I’m assuming something with computers or technology?

Everyone talks about these outdoor activities in northern cali. Like hiking and bicycling? Because those aren't as fun as hunting and fishing to me. How do these stack up?

Good point. I don’t know enough about hunting and fishing in Cali to opine, but i can’t imagine it’s as accessible as it is here.

But that too depends on how important it is to the individual. If you want it bad enough you find a way and the expense is worth it. If not, it’s irrelevant anyway.

130K in Silicon valley equals 70k in Louisiana!

I don't blame you fro wanting to leave Louisiana but I would say if you can land a $130k job in Cali then you can land a 80-100k job in Texas or other areas of the country where the cost of living isn't tripled!

Plenty of hunting and fishing in that area. Western US outdoor life is far superior to Louisiana outdoor life. Way more variety

Get out of Louisiana, just don’t go to somewhere as expensive as Cali

Not necessarily.

When you consider all the fishing options in SoLa, it can’t be beat. While is lacks mountain streams for fly fishing, it offers world class marsh fishing throughout.

Off shore fishing in LA is unmatched as well due to nutrients from the marsh and rivers combined with (while ugly) off shore structures.

One caveat: to maximize this, you must have a boat.

Aside from fishing,

Hiking
White-water Rafting
Mountain Biking
Rock Climbing
Skiing
Snowboarding

Idk how much applies to NorCal, but when people talk about the Western states and the outdoor activities, these immediately come to mind. Crazy how different some people are, because if someone told me "But Louisiana is great for fishing," I don't think there's anything I could care less about.

No brainer - take the job and go. Perfect time for an adventure. You might even meet your wife out there - who knows. As others have said, you can always reverse this move in the future if it doesn't work out for any reason. Live a little.

Unless what you really enjoy isn’t offered. But then again, you never know what you may like if you never tried it.

Personally, if I was the OP, I’d bounce ASAP and give it a shot. Other than his home, sounds like he has absolutely nothing tying him here.

Maybe you've covered this, but if you can get a job paying that much in Cali, then why not look other places around the US that you'll be able to afford a house in?
