You know what's better than not paying any extra fees?
Not paying any extra fees and getting cash back just for paying for things I need.

LOL, yes you do bc the merchant already has it baked into their prices. And you don’t get shite back for it.

I don’t know why anyoneeee uses a debit card for anything other than getting cash from an ATM. It’s -your- money, linked to your bank account. Sure you can get it back from the bank, but why not use a credit card that is someone else’s money till you pay the bill plus earn rewards and shite. Fraud on a debit card could cause your account to go negative and all sorts of other issues. Someone could charge 50k on my credit card and I’d be shocked and confused but the least bit concerned about having to pay it or it influencing my finances

How to avoid skimmer theft:
NEVER run your debit card as 'debit', only use credit. Never type in your pin #.
Only use gas pumps closest to the station building. It's easier for criminals to install skimmers the further away from the main hub.
Always be extra careful at major stations on major highways. The skimmer theives are going to target the busiest places to get the most numbers.
Always have text alerts on all your cards. Every time you a transaction goes through at all, it will notify you.

Fraudsters open gas pumps and put their skimmers where you insert your credit card. Their skimmers read the information on the card.
That method had been obsolete for quite a while. Gas pump skimmers used today are a plastic facade that fits tightly over the outside of the pumps card slot, doesn’t require opening the pump. Photo shows pump with external skimmer added. They are usually placed on the pump for short periods
of time with someone watching from a short distance who will remove the skimmer after it has collected a sufficient card data.

Next time you fill up, look carefully at the pump. You will see some long stickers about 1/2 inch wide and maybe 6 inches long. They are placed in such a manner they they cover the gaps in the face plate of the pump. If they are broken/torn or they are missing then someone has tampered with the pump and you could be the chump.
That's why you should always replace the stickers after you insert the skimmer.

My wife had $3000 worth of flights to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia charged to her debit card 5 years ago. I was expecting the Feds to show up at anytime. Her bank refunded the purchase.

Just started working and only had a student bank account, Like a moron I kept all my money in the account and it got up to like $17k. Went to buy a jacket at Dick's and the card wouldn't go thru, call the bank and someone in Baker tried buying a tv with my card info at Walmart and the purchase got flagged.

I still use a debit card a lot. Yeah I know rewards and stuff, but I don't like being able to spend more money than I have most of the time.
I have no debit card on my main bill account, just on a spending account that I have a couple hundred dollars on most of the time.

You know what's better than not paying an extra fee? Earning enough points for a business class flight to Tokyo

Skimmers have been out there for awhile now. There's a reason why there are anti-tampering stickers on gas pumps.

And they chip off a little bit to you.

uses a debit card
I use it 12 times a month. On < $10 purchases here and there. 12 purchases and a direct deposit and Synergy Bank gives us 1.99% APY up to 15k in our checking accounts and 0.99% in savings. My wife (no pics) and I have been making around $8-900 a year just to bank there with four separate, but linked accounts. They also pay back any ATM fees that aren’t theirs.
Everything else that I can use my Cabelas Mastercard on, I do. Then get $4-500 back towards a gun every year. Going crossbow this year because the guns keep getting lost in boating accidents.
Cash
Those use any ATMs for free swipes come in handy when I need cash.

I use a debit card everywhere. It has a limit on it each day you can set your limit with your bank. Also has a limit on how much I can withdraw at the ATM per day. Never had a problem with it.

Those same people get all of my tax money. A little bit going my way is deserved and not going to make me feel a shred of guilt

Except when it comes time to take out a loan on something. I paid cash for everything for years until I tried to get a auto loan. Was told I did not have a credit history and the interest rate was ridiculous. After that I started building my credit history.

There's no reason whatsoever to single you out or try to make you feel guilty. I used it to make a comment
