So is that in a military/law enforcement/self defense context or more in an unjustified homicide context?

Eye of the beholder and all.... Did a few years because of it, but in hindsight I think God had a direct hand in my sentencing and parole release dates.

The universe is not perfectly balanced. It is in a constant state of change towards entropy.

How did the universe get into a state of order for entropy to then have it's opportunity?

You're right. The Epic of Gilgamesh pretty much puts everything into place. Thanks!

Fwiw the original Hebrew translation of the very beginning of the bible says that God's creation IS the restoration of order to the chaos of space

Science will discover God, eventually.

No idea. Maybe there is an endless repetition of big bangs and big crunches. Maybe there are infinite universes and this one happened to go boom as it did. I honestly can admit that I don't know.

I don't know how many times I have to say it, I don't claim to know that there are no gods. I claim that I do not think the gods of organized religion exist based on convincing evidence.

Yeah, and other creation myths have said essentially the same thing about other gods and forces.

This is kind of where I've been for the past 15 years or so......but really, seriously for the past 5. I WANT to believe. The nature of man, the way many of the aspects of the Roman Catholic Church were handled, and on and on have made it extremely difficult to believe that we haven't twisted and construed God's word into something that it's not.

And, maybe it's my admitted ignorance of the Bible, it seems like we have 2 very different Gods between the Old Testament and the New Testament.....which kinda makes it weird for me. We set emotions on a figure that.....you wouldn't necessarily think would have emotions because emotions are a product of our brains.

Maybe you should find a different church then.

I don't want to get in a catholic-Protestant debate, but I don't agree with a lot of things Catholics do/say/believe

When is faith absolutely required to believe something? I'll tell you - faith is needed when the thing you're being told to believe is untrue. If it were true, you wouldn't need faith.

Now, doesn't it seem suspicious when someone tells you faith is the most important thing in religion?

Also, why does God always need a middleman to tell others what he wants?

I understand you exactly. I also wanted to believe for a long time. I became a deist for a while, but eventually just had to get comfortable with the term "atheist." People treat it like a dirty thing.

I am not an antitheist. If I ever went back to religion, it would be deism. We have the ability to reason more clearly and learn more broadly than any humans who have ever lived, and yet we insist on squishing the truth of the universe into the little religion boxes invented by societies totally different and less learned that our own.

I don't know how it sounds honestly.... But this is the super short version of my personal walk relating to this....

I used to always pray for God to send me a sign, show me something, etc. I never got the signs I asked for at the time I wanted them. It took me forever to finally figure out the key. It's so simple, that I had overlooked it my entire life.

If you want the proof, you WILL NOT GET IT without first having faith. Once you have the faith, it's crazy how much proof you get.

I've had all of those prayers answered now, years later. But it was only after I had faith.

As an aside, I used to WANT to believe but couldn't. I was stuck in a rut like that for years. You just have to pray on it. Ask God to help you with your lack of belief, your lack of faith.
