Craigslist scam involving google voice

I was selling some tickets on Craigslist when I got an email looking to buy but wanted to text. Ok I give my phone number. Start texting and they claim they want to make sure this is a legit number and say they will send a verification code. I get the code and stupidly respond to it in the text. As soon as I did this I realized I fricked up. Basically they were using my phone number to create a google voice account and needed my number to link it. Lesson learned. At first I thought they were trying to hack my email and went on a password changing spree but relieved I guess that it was just to get a google voice number to continue on their scams.

I think it’s so they can create a google voice number since it has to be linked to a legit phone number. Find it odd and a lot of trouble for the scammers
