Cox didn't shut you off, the tech disconnected you at the pole. If you have a tall ladder, you can reconnect your Internet. You will see a red tag and basically the only one unplugged. Reconnect that, power cycle your modem and you're back in business.

Cox sucks arse.

Had similar issues when living on Highland south of campus. Would randomly go out sometimes and was out for a week after they accidentally nicked my line when doing utility work. Only positive was the LSU student discount.

Have Spectrum now and it's fine, but Google Fiber was by far the best internet I've ever had.

One time I was burning some brush in my yard and burnt up my neighbor's cable/internet wire. They were out of service for a few days.

All I got.

Ingress is noise coming from the house back onto the feeder lines. Sometimes there are bad fittings, bad splitters, even a bad cable box or TV that backfeed that noise on the main lines. While there is always a noise floor on those lines, too much ingress from a house can take down a whole Node. they can be hard to clear up as Sometimes just disconnecting a fitting in the house clears it until it builds back up.

From what I’ve gathered from speaking with others, Cox as an ISP sucks cocks.

I've had Cox force me to leave my house to try to find internet somewhere else so I could submit an exam and I've had a job interview cut in and out because of that company...when you leave Louisiana and realize how stable other internet is, it makes Cox's ridiculousness even worse.

Funny you mentioned this. I had a massive set of plans I was working on for a bid that was due by noon yesterday (Friday) and I had noway of getting my stuff off the cloud I was working on because of Cox Xfinity. It was extremely embarrassing but not a damn thing I could do about it.

Yeah, with the interview, there was nothing I could do about it either. I was very lucky the interviewer was accommodating of my internet issues, but she could have easily told me to take a hike, and I wouldn't have blamed her.

With how many things are remote nowadays, you can't be providing such a low quality of service.

The amount of ignorant jibberish about how ISPs work in general is astounding in this thread.

If you have no clue what you're talking please refrain from the stupidity.

This has been the only relevant/insightful/knowledgeable comment here:

All IPS are the same, they all "suck", they all have the same issues with noise, ingress, plant disturbances, environmental factors, etc.

Literally the only difference is customer service and effort toward outage resolution. Maybe some also with customer communications.

But when it comes to the actual product delivered, its incredibly ignorant to believe that one company has discrimination over the quality of the product offered. You are their customer. They have no reason to "shut you off" as long as you're paying your bill.

If they shut you off, that just means they have to spend money sending someone out to fix it, trust me they would like you to be up and working without issue JUST as much as you would.

Any downtime to you or other customers comes at a huge cost to them in order to resolve. The amount of people who are too stupid to understand this concept is astounding to me.

I could have ran up to kinkos or something like that but this has been like the 5th time in as many years that this has happened. My office is my home office so I couldn’t run into the work office to do this. It’s just annoying
