Suddenly losing weight or giving away things that matter, among other signs are telling. You have to ask anyone you are concerned about if they have ever had thoughts of taking their own life. Don't just say hurting yourself. Crazy as it may sound they would not think of killing themselves as hurting themselves. If someone has had thoughts of killing themselves then you have to find out if they have constructed a plan for doing so. If they have they are in real trouble.

True, but I'd say by that time it's pretty much all but said and done, or close to.

I tell you one thing, one of the scariest/eery things in my life was finding the research my brother was doing on his computer on how to do it.

I am no expert on suicide, but I've learned a lot in my life about this:

1) People who threaten suicide VERY rarely do it, almost never. It's a cry for attention, or a cry for genuine help.

2) People who successfully commit suicide rarely show any "tell-tale" hints, and often times it was determined after the fact that they did it impulsively. Sometimes people that knew them will say, "I knew he/she was having a rough time, but we never suspected this", or stuff like that.

Suicide is a very sad thing to deal with for the people that knew/loved/were friends with the one who does it, but as for preventing it, aside from encouraging everyone who is considering it do get help, it's extremely hard to stop.

his family? Really?

Guess what, unless you live with a person, you don't know them. And even then maybe not.

I'll pretty much agree with this. These people are "attention whores".
and the judging begins

You can never really tell to me. Ive had friends who told me they were contemplating suicide and I had to knock some sense into their heads.. But I have no idea of knowing how serious they actually were.

I had a friend back in grade school who committed suicide. My first major loss in life, it wrecked me up. I had no clue how we spent all summer playing basketball, sleepovers, going to the skating rink, talking about girls, etc. And all of a sudden he was gone after I seen him 2 days before seemingly perfectly fine. I later learned that somehow his dad won custody over him. He was staying with his grandmother his whole life. So he had to leave all his family and friends to move in with a guy he barely even knows. Hate it had to end that wat
