Even if they had, the results would likely not be back by now. The backlog in AL is insane.

WOW that many rapes in a small college town? Yeesh

This board is skeptical of rape allegations...unless Bama is involved.

Mostly that article accuses that they did it for the benefit of themselves and to protect the small town good ole boy - maybe more will come in the future.

I don't think individual towns have forensic labs, but could be mistaken.

The Bunn Construction office is on University Boulevard in a large white plantation style office. Basically across the street from Hooligans/Innisfree. You've definitely seen it if you've lived in Tuscaloosa, though you may not have noticed it.

The Google reviews for that place are rolling in.

do you really think any of the national television media will ever pick up on this
a potential cover up of a rape of a white girl on a college campus where the perp is a wealthy highly connected white male? No. That is so outside the national narrative on sexual assault that it will be met with a collective shrug by the national media.

Then why would you take the case to a grand jury if you don't have all the evidence in hand?
quote:

The interview should have been recorded. She should have provided a written statement. At the minimum.
I agree that a big problem with this case is that she appears to have left the area and ceased cooperating with investigators (though, seeing as how they started saying they were going to charge her with a crime too, one can understand why a scared 21 yo female would do such a thing). But, didn't she make a written statement? I mean, don't you have to do that to get any kind of serious investigation going in the first place? It's not like you can waltz into the sheriff's office and say "yo, I was raped," and they'll go out and start pulling in suspects without you having to swear that you were assaulted, right?
quote:

You cannot make them answer questions. What if they refused?
Do we know if they did or not? You can't make them answer the questions but you can make them sit down and be asked.
quote:

As former law enforcement and now an attorney, if the cops show up and start asking you about crimes you ask for an attorney period. A good one will show up and tell you to shut up.
Sure, but any decent LEO would ask anyway. "I want an attorney" is the worst thing he can say. I imagine that as an LEO you asked a lot of suspects stuff that they shouldn't have answered but they did and you were able to build a case based on their own stupidity.
quote:

Excuse me well you take a drug test that can be used against you in a court of law? "No. I want an attorney." See previous answer of what a competent attorney will say when they arrive.
I know investigators with the WANTF and they have a public ledger of cases and a private ledger of cases. That private ledger of cases contains the names of people who have come up in investigations and are suspected of being users or players behind the scenes. That's where they develop their list of probable suspects. There's plenty of fertile ground there to start chasing down the drugged angle, especially given that he was accused of a very similar act a few years earlier.
quote:

Go ahead. It is not admissible. If any investigation existed and was unfounded and the cops or DA bring it up there will be another type of civil case pending.

Depending on the outcome of the previous case, wouldn't that at least be the basis for a reasonable suspicion that would justify pursuing the other angles in this case?

Yeah, the university angle here is weak. Did they do all that they absolutely could for this poor girl? No. But UA isn't the one who appears to have bungled the investigation and engaged in some kind of pay-for-play scheme to obstruct justice.

Trust me, in terms of the crooked justice, this onion has a shite-ton of layers and there are lots of metaphorical "bodies" lying around that I imagine folks are getting really nervous about being uncovered right now. In re the crooked school board election, the vote tampering case where the judge overseeing it was married to the house adviser of one of the sororities being investigated, the former police chief whose wife was found dead in the trunk of a car, the head of the narcotics office caught with $250k cash, yada, yada, yada.

And yet he was arrested for DUI within a calendar year of the scripted investigation. As far as what was not done during the investigation, a suspect cannot be forced to do most of what you listed. Other acts in Bunn's past would not be admissible. So...

I don't understand your infatuation with this DUI. The severity of punishment for a DUI and rape are clearly different.

There is no room for your straw man argument here. His DUI arrest has NOTHING to do with the fact that the police clearly mishandled this girl's case.

The Department of Forensic Science is a state entity. An entity that had has its funding cut drastically. A PIA for law enforcement, prosecutors, and defense attorneys alike.

Looks like they have made a concerted effort to scrub their internet presence.

Although I am skeptical about Donald Watkins, he lays out a very compelling case showing how conflicted the Sheriff and DA are. I don't know what remedies there could be but I would hope some serious pressure and all avenues are pursued.

Yes, the one thing I will say is that everyone donates to the PACs. If you're involved in contracts with politicians and whatnot, it's what you do. That's the case everywhere. So, the only thing that makes this all play is the timing. They'll never get any legal punishment for it, though, because it's damn near impossible to prove quid pro quo without having them on tape talking about it and the same PACs will make sure that anyone who opposes them in an election will be outspent and defeated. The civil suit is the only way to go.

Culpable act? Criminal lawyers chime in. Even if it was consensual, she hangs herself and dude gets hammered on same day and gets DUI reeks. Wonder if he knew, got a text or something?
