I'd also be well within my rights to give him a 0 star rating.

I'd bet you'd suck an Uber driver dry if you were about to get carjacked at gunpoint and the driver, who you were unaware was a cop, blasted the carjackers and possibly saved your life.
That seems like a very plausible scenario, especially in NYC .
This seems like a good reason to just call a cab I stead of uber, or better just take the subway home.

You asked how an Uber driver going out of his way to get his stoned/drunk passengers food at McDonalds is relevant to the quality of the ride?
If I am doing a service for someone where I get paid based on time, then I am not going out of my way by prolonging the time they are under my services.

OK, it must have been coming from the building then. Those darn $15/hr employees toking up in the drive through.

Would that surprise you one bit?

Well, from the building yes. From the employees? Hell no. I expect that most toke up.
Ask your friends to give me the Uber drivers username so I can call for him and offset their 0 stars. Hell, if he'll come here I'll point out all the pot heads I know.

They didn't directly see anyone in the car in front of them smoking weed.
So they know what the cop saw? Ive seen a lot of things sitting behind a car. Especially at night while my lights were shining in their car. If I see someone put their hand to their mouth followed by a large puff of smoke that has the smell of burnt marijuana then id say there is more than enough evidence that the person is smoking marijuana.
Besides, the cop didn't order them be arrested. He just requested an officer investigate it.

0 stars for not doing the job his customers are paying him to do. As someone pointed out earlier, he's ethically obligated to go after crime if he sees it. I can think of all sorts of bad scenarios where all people want is a drive home, and instead they get a drive to jail. Generally speaking arresting your customers or leaving them on the clock to call in crime is generally frowned upon by most businesses.

That's a fair thought.
Still would not have wanted a ride from that guy.

Its not what he didn't do, its what he did, which was using police equipment to do police work while carrying riders without giving them any choice over whether or not they wanted to be associated with such action.

Cops don't get paid all that well and often take a side job.
He's to be commended for legit moonlighting with Uber instead of shaking down motorists during traffic stops or worse.

He didn't devote all of his attention to his customers. If I am paying you to drive me somewhere I don't want you looking for crime to go after while you're on the clock. The police radio in the car tells me he is either 1)on the clock as a cop or 2)not paying attention to the road/waiting for something else to come in. Why have it on if you don't want to use it?

Explain to me then how getting paid more to go through a drive-through somehow makes this situation extenuating? You can't, because it doesn't.
Uber isn't a taxi where you're charged per minute with a meter running. It's based on distance. If mcdonalds is on the way home he's not getting paid more. If you wanna get real technical, that extra time he spent (and it is extra time, since that wasn't their dropoff location) could have cost him a good bit based on the next fare he lost out on by getting them food.

Ok, take away the radio. If John Q Public Uber driver did the same with his cell phone reporting someone drinking and driving would it be as much of an issue?
Or is the issue really that people don't like cops and think just because marijuana should be legal, people should ignore the current law
