If you say the Galleria or Downtown, then you rule out places like The Woodlands, Katy, Sugarland, etc unless you like commuting 2 hours a day.

Wouldn’t Sugarland be a rather straightforward commute to Galleria? Especially compared with most of the other suburbs listed.

Houston burbs don't suck. You probably suck at researching them.

Katy is up and growing still. Far from downtown but growing in its own community.

Spring is getting crowded. Good school district but not much else imo.

Woodlands is nice. Great burbs, good school. Has its own little town/community. Still growing in terms of young adults/out of college folk.

Cypress is great. Good school and area. Very spread out. But more family oriented imo.

Sugarland is still growing. Lots of land/real estate down there. School system is good as well. Most people stay there or travel to the city for activities.

Mo-City (Missouri city). Nice houses. Okay school district. Just depends on which part of Mo-city you live in.

East Houston....no

Geez, when did Katy fall from grace and why?

Lack of knowledge of the area.

I live in Cinco Ranch (Katy) and have since 2004. AS far as schools go, they are some of the best in Houston and if you work in the energy corridor then Katy is your best commute. As far as amenities, no burb can compete with the Woodlands but Katy has come a long way since I have lived here in regard to restaurants, bars, nightlife and general amenities (gyms, parks, hike/bike trails, etc.) I would rank Katy ahead of Sugarland at this point and I would not have 10 years ago.

But as others have said, you pick your burb based on work location and commute time. Its a huge consideration anywhere in Houston. The only thing I would add considering commute is to avoid 45 and 59 at all costs.
