Truth! This guy wants the equivalent of gentle parenting for hardened criminals. If your kids are acting up, what's going to make them stop, building "trust" with their parent or a pop on the butt?
Fun fact, school kids were also much better behaved when principals had paddles. Maybe it's archaic, but it works. Making people uncomfortable tends to guide behavior.
