Where I live (not SC), I always use my local independent donut shop. Way better than any of the chains.

An Asian guy got in the donut business years ago in TX. Now a lot of unaffiliated (i.e. randomly named) stores in Texas are run by Asians, if you notice, and I never had a bad one in any of them. I read a story about it a while back, no idea where.
