I'm no breast feeding nazi but when possible it's better for your baby....from colic to brain development

We are straight formula and both babies were c-sections.

We ain't down with the au natural. We are straight 21st century with all its technological disadvantages for worse.

Yeah and after spending 30 minutes with a lactation specialist at the hospital I decided the misery my wife and child experienced during the encounter outweighed any possible advantages.

My three babies only slept on their stomach. I do not buy the crapola connect between SIDS and stomach sleepers.
I drove drunk a lot and survived, it doesn't make it a good idea.

SIDS is dramatically reduced by back sleeping.

If breast feeding were as easy and natural for everyone as it is for some, these wouldn't exist.

OP, I feel your pain. Our daughter was collicky as hell. Tried everything mentioned in this thread, but in the end, the thing that worked best was time. And time slows down to a crawl.

Then we were blessed with baby #2, who is just awesome and easy-going and problem-free (except for the whole needing skull surgery thing).

Did not read the entire thread, so not sure what all has been mentioned yet.

1) I feel for you and your wife. You may have to try a number of methods, but you'll eventually will figure out what works for y'all.
2) Purchase Happiest Baby on the Block DVD. Amazon has them for a few bucks, and everything this brilliant baby whisper MD does can help, even past just the "fits".
3) My baby began showing signs of "colic" around 3 weeks. I thought I was going insane, had no idea what to do to help him..just figured he was one of those fussy babies. Got so bad that we ended up in the ER at the Lake on a Friday night. The doctor laughed and made us feel brilliant when he noted that our baby did this "thing" with his tongue like he was having reflux or perhaps tasted something bad. Said that was a tell tale of Reflux. Started him on Zantac, kept having to mess with dosage since he gained so quickly. Two weeks later we got on Prevacid Solutabs and never looked back. Never in my life did I want to write a thank you note to a pharma company...that little sweet tablet changed our lives! He became the happiest baby that I've personally known. He stayed on Prevacid until 10 months, and then it kinda sorted itself out. We tried to wean once or twice along the way, but it always ended with regret and a pissed off baby.
4) Baby slept next to our bed until 8 months so that I could monitor, I was always terrified of him aspirating..thanks FB mommy "scare" articles. The Rock N Play is great, but we used an inclined bassinet click in. Once we moved him to the crib we put two legs up on bricks to give it a good incline. That worked. He was also swaddled TIGHT in the Swaddle Me Velcros because otherwise he could break out of any straight jacket level swaddle we mustered.
5) Here we are over a year and 3 months later, and we have a little piglet who eats everything, laughs at everything, and you would have never known his prior struggles with reflux.
6) Get a sitter, get out with your wife. Make yourselves! We didn't even want to due to exhaustion and guilt. Even if all you do is talk about him, its ok.
7) Dr. Browns bottles are what we used until 1 year.
8) Eventually we used Enfamil AR, which worked, although I must warn that the spit up looks like cottage cheese. Yum!
9) Please remind yourselves constantly that even though you are about to have a nervous breakdown with the crying, your precious angel is in PAIN. It can be overwhelming, but just remember how bad heartburn can hurt an adult---then envision that same pain in your tiny two week old. :(
10) GOOD LUCK! Glad to provide everyone with a TL; DR post.
