I have no help to offer except that having the word Engineer after the word Civil drives actual Engineers crazy.

2004ish to 2007ish

When he left for A&M I heard he asked to teach more advanced classes and they told him no. So he left. And I stopped donating money to them.

I know Southern's law school sucks and I think the only thing they have going for them is maybe civil engineering
LSU let Southerns kids come take some classes in the summer and they had to have a completely different grading curve just so they all didn't fail. I believe LSU stopped that after that summer. Hell idk if Southerns engineering program is ABET accredited anymore.

Looks like they still are, but i remember reading they were close to losing it recently.

Mississippi State University would be a bitter choice. Be a chance for them to get out and see the world’s least interesting place.

Are civil engineers in charge of making all of these shitty Louisiana roads?

Politicians decide what and where roads get built. Big difference.

Not saying mechanical can't and don't do structural work it's just that civil/structural typically do bridge work.

This. And there is a firm in NOLA specializing in bridge design. Has been for years.

Mojesky & Masters

ETA: THey hire Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Traffic...... many different types.

My last proposal beat out M&M.... They are good, specialize in movable bridges but do other things as everyone does. movables involve all types of engineers.

teacher

i know i had a woman for one and another was an old white guy who had to eat tootsie rolls in class, lest he would pass out from his sugar being too low.

and then there is the professor i had for differential equations. i begged him on a test not to flunk me and he just wrote "try harder" and flunked me anyway. that was around the end of my experiment with engineering.

LSU CM major here. Graduated 5 years ago and make decent money as a Commercial PM but thinking about going back to school for ABET credits to pursue a PE career. Is the lifestyle any better as a PE? My work is pretty fricking stressful and don't feel its worth the money.

I think after attaining my CE degree, I would settle on one class that is most important. It happens early on, but it gives you a whole lot of tools that you need in CE... and that is trigonometry. Absorb that class as best you can. It is the toolbox that you'll use again and again.

My brother-in-laws neighbor is headed to Mississippi State for CE. He said that their program is better than LSU's. I would recommend considering them

100% Fact. Especially in Louisiana.

Just depends what type of work you do I would guess, but I would probably say yes. I deal mostly with road work and pavement preservation jobs.

On my end we don't really deal with contractors on a daily basis once we stamp the plans. It's mostly the field engineer that oversees the project. We'll get questions if a quantity is missing or a dimension is wrong, or the contractor needs more time, and we'll have to process a change order.
Most of my work is managing schedules, some design & drafting, filling out/stamping supporting documents. Hardly any field work really.

I worked as a field engineer my first job out of school and hated working hours of the contractor while being on salary.
